Q, the new cultural supplement Diário de Notícias, is born
12 September 2011
From Saturday September 10, Diário de Notícias, the centenary Portuguese newspaper published by Controlinveste, has a new product to enrich its weekend offering. The full title is Quociente de Inteligência and it will focus on culture and thought.
Directed by Pedro Tadeu, Q is delivered every Saturday to the readers of Diário de Notícias. It does not reject text; on the contrary, thought-out its 24 pages, text is at the epicenter. The supplement extensively explores a small number of subjects in articles developed for quiet reading. At a time when newspapers are being increasingly chopped up in the pursuit of the quick visual scan, Q stakes a commitment to the printed word with all its consequences.
The graphic design of the supplement was created by Errea Communicación. For the visual conceptualization, the models of the leading intellectual magazines, which have a predominance of typography and with illustration playing a lead role, was kept in mind. In this case, sophistication and elegance are not pursued through silence or lightness, or rather, not necessarily, but instead by the use of variety and forcefulness. The volume and tone of each piece are modulated with typography. The typographic arsenal is, for this reason, more extensive and ranges from a sans serif of extreme delicacy such as DS Nyte to the determination of Poplar, including others such as Leitura and Brunel.
Q was launched one week following the appearance of Dinheiro Vivo, the Saturday financial news supplement of the Controlinveste newspapers (Diário de Notícias and Jornal de Notícias) and whose design was created by Errea Communicación.
